The transformation of raw wool into Harris Tweed® continues with the washing process 🫧 Returning from the weaver’s home to the mill in its greasy state, freshly darned tweeds make their way to the first stage in the finishing process - scouring and milling. Each tweed is sewn together to ensure a continuous loop, then loaded into the basin and washed to remove the oil and impurities picked up from earlier production processes. Each step of the production process allows us to admire the craft of our Shawbost Mill workers who meticulously ensure continuous movement along the production line.
