Just got two tortoises from PetSmart. Do they look good?
May 1, 2024 · You were smart to buy two enclosures because no species of tortoise does well in pairs, however, these are full grown tortoises and probably would do much better in a safe, outdoor habitat. Russian tortoises, especially wild caught, full grown, as yours are, don't do well inside in a small enclosure.

Nov 30, 2013 · It might be an idea to talk to the manager (humbly) and suggest that if they insist upon having that type of water dish in with the tortoise they might consider sinking it down into the substrate to make it easier for the tortoise to reach his neck in. My grandson is a manager at one of the Petsmarts here in our area.

Aug 1, 2013 · I went to petsmart the other day and saw a little tort for sale. I would have bought him/her but I don't have the room right now or the budget. It was so cute and obviously not in the ideal environment but for anyone that wants to adopt/save a really little and what appears to be under weight greek tort, it's at the petsmart in chambersburg PA

Jul 16, 2014 · My experience working at a Petsmart: This is why I refuse to shop these box stores and prefer to adopt or buy from a reputable breeder. Up until a year ago I worked at a Petsmart for 3 years. There was very basic information available to employees about the care of the animals offered, especially the reptiles, and most of it was wrong.

She was sold for $100, which I understand to be too cheap for captive bred torts. She was also over 4 or 5 inches when I got her. Since then, I have found many sources that say that PetSmart sells wild-caught torts.

If I were you I would I look on CraigsList continually (that's where I got both my Russian's) and look on this forum! Plus the tortoise could die if you get it from PetSmart and and then that's $75.00-$100.00 down the drain....

Oct 17, 2016 · December 23 I purchased a Petsmart Russian Tortoise for my son, it is all he's wanted for the last 4yrs. January 9th late at night it pooped out a 2 inch round worm. 9am January 11th Tortoise went to the vet and put on dewormer and was told she may not make it another couple weeks because she is full of parasites and very weak.
