It’s light, has good water resistance properties and is very easy to carve. Spruce is a very good choice for a stronger paddle that will be a little bit heavier. Look for a board that’s straight, light, no knots and is quarter sawn.

Jan 22, 2024 · I've gotten red cedar for two kayaks and several paddles from there, and it's really lovely wood. Way cheaper than what I got for my first two canoe builds, which was from Issaquah Cedar and Lumber.
