Jul 18, 2022 · To add a COM Port, you can launch Device Manager, highlight your Computer Name at the top of the list, select Action menu and Add legacy hardware. Follow the wizard to Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, choose Ports (COM & LPT), Standard and Communications Port. However, I would suspect this will not work with your device.

However I am able to establish serial communication using a USB to RS-232 cable instead of using a COM Port on the PC using the same win form application. Does win form applications using serial port class not work on win 10 for RS232 communication?

After connecting the device to my laptop it also shows up in the device manager but it seems that I'm unable to open the COM port for communication (I'm using LabVIEW but also tried using PuTTY).

Then expand port (COMS & LPT). Then right click on Prolific USB-to Serial Comm Port and then on properties. Go to port settings and click on Advanced.

Jun 10, 2020 · The device works fine on another laptop. It's as if I mistakenly turned off my Comm Ports or something. The Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port remains greyed out. I tried Add New Hardware and installing the (new) Prolific drivers -- nothing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling every Port and USB on Device Manager -- nothing.

Sep 17, 2022 · Running Windows 11 which performed an update yesterday. I'm using USB devices having an FTDI chip. Windows no longer assigns a COM port and says there is no driver. I've re-installed the driver (directly from FTDI) but the problem remains. I've tried several physical ports, cables and devices.

Aug 16, 2015 · All this devices use a PL2303 to provide a connection to an USB port, but inside, they are RS232-like interface build (and appear as a COM port in your operating system). When you plug the device into USB, it is well recognized by W10 and it try to load the Prolific driver.
