Mahon River Light - Wikipedia
Mahon River Lighthouse is a U.S. lighthouse in Port Mahon, Delaware, on the west side of the mouth of the Delaware River. [2] The original Mahon River Lighthouse built in 1903 and was a 2-story wood keeper's house with an octagonal lantern centered on the roof. It was discontinued in 1955, the same year as the current steel skeletal tower was lit.

Jul 3, 2021 · I think Port Mahon’s story began with a lighthouse near the mouth of the Mahon River built in 1831, built primarily to guide commercial oyster boats operating in this part of the bay. The lighthouse immediately faced problems: storms continually eroded the shoreline here and damaged the lighthouse.

Aug 29, 2018 · The most recent Mahon River lighthouse was put into operation in 1903. The locals called it Port Mahon Lighthouse. Proceeded by Mahon’s Ditch Lighthouse, circa 1930s, which was relisted as Mahon’s River Lighthouse in 1839 only to spend the next 50 to 60 years being worked on and repaired.

May 17, 2012 · Actually there have been five lighthouses at Port Mahon to guide ships and waterman on the Delaware Bay. The first was built in 1831 and because of erosion, a series of replacements were built. The last lighthouse was built in 1903 and lasted until 1984.
