Dec 2, 2004 · Thanks for the replies. I actually found more info right after I posted. As for the setup, I'm leaning toward using JBL S-Series speakers to piecemeal a system using the S-Centerii, S26ii (rear surround) and either S310ii or S38ii (eventually) as front mains.

Feb 25, 2006 · Those big JBL 15" midwoofers do have quite a distinct sound, and Weber speakers actually manufactures a speaker that mimics the old JBL D130's. They won't be accurate or pristine, but they will be big!

Feb 4, 2010 · The JBL L100 speakers you have are known for both efficiency and power handling. They sound good with either low or high powered amplifiers. I have had a pair since 1973 and have listened to them mainly through an equally old Marantz 2230. That's 30 watts/channel. I have also heard them driven with amps from as low as 15 to as high as 200 wpc.

Dec 28, 2003 · So how long do speakers last, the old AWA Studio Monitors are 30 years old and going strong, my Wharfedales after just two years of use, both woofers went within 2 weeks of each other. Moral of the story, buy quality speakers that use top quality components. The old AWA's had Peerless woofers who in the early 70's were renowned for there quality.
JBL J-Series (particularly J900mv and J1000mv Towers)
Mar 10, 2004 · Well, now it's time to get my stereo back. I just snagged an NAD T750 surround receiver off eBay, and I even found the exact same model (J900MV) speakers I once loved. However, I just found out that there was also a JBL J1000MV model, which was the biggest of the J-series speakers, with a 10" bass woofer, instead of the 8" in my model. My question:

Apr 9, 2010 · As for new speakers, you could look at the JBL, Polk and Infinity speakers at the big box retail stores or maybe the Paradigm Atom (assuming you get a sub) at the audio dealers. JBL, Polk and Infinity stuff is mostly not really hi-fi, but it sounds pretty good to most people.
Old Marantz speakers.
Sep 21, 2004 · Anybody know where I can find some info on some old Marantz speakers? I think they are vintage late 70s maybe early 80s. They are 3-way floor standers with what looks to be a 10", (I don't have them in front of me, they are at home on the other side of the state). They are listed as the Prestige series.
