The easiest access point to find inside Kyoto Station is the underground passage on the east side of the station building. Outside Kyoto Station, on the northern Karasuma side, you can also find many clearly marked gates for the Porta underground shopping mall.

On Kyoto Station signage this route is referred to as the Kinokuni Line, though the train doesn’t actually join the Kinokuni Line proper until it reaches Wakayama Station. This service is fully covered by the Japan Rail Pass. Trains leave from platforms 6 and 7 in Kyoto Station.
The Cube Shopping Mall at Kyoto Station
The Cube is a shopping mall occupying three floors on the north west side of the station building. On the first floor and first basement floor (B1) you will find Kyoto confectionery and souvenir shops. This is a very handy area for picking up souvenirs unique to Kyoto before you depart for your next destination.
