Feb 14, 2019 · Keep in mind that the angle of the bevel changes if you have a distal taper so fixed angles are of little use. This jig I made works really well, is very quick to change the angle and as the blade isn't fixed it can still be adjusted by hand to stay perpendicular to the belt. It only needs 1 adjustment rail not 3 like I have.

I was able to get decent grinds with the 1x30 but couldn't apply the kind of pressure needed because I would stall the motor Now having a 2x72 makes a world of difference.

You just file (or grind) until the bevel goes from the spine (or wherever you want it to stop) and ends at the edge with the desired edge thickness. The jig just keeps all the file strokes at the same angle and direction for better control. On the grinder, the Bubble Jig does sort the same thing.

Feb 17, 2009 · I first tried the OBM Grinding Jig and then the TR Maker. I could not get consistent plunges because you had to remove the knife in a lengthy process to do the other side. I like to be able to flip the knife back and forth as I'm grinding so I can keep the grinds even. The Contender allows me to easily remove the knife and flip it back and forth.

This is a problem, because this is not the angle you are concerned with - you are concerned with the angle between the platen and the steel (we'll call this "angle B").
