To my mind there could have definitely been races of very tall people. The bible speaks of them living in canaan when moses arrived with the Hebrews. Say the average Hebrew male was around 5ft and there was an ethnic group or tribe that had an average male height of 6ft or more. Goliath at 6ft6 would have been a giant to a 5ft Hebrew.
