Invisible butt joints - The WoodenBoat Forum
Sep 26, 2001 · Recently joined two 4' by 8' plywood sheets with one 2" wide fiberglass-epoxy joint in one operation. Lay the first strip of glass wet with epocy on poly film. Lay the two pieces of plywood on top. Roll firmly. Make sure you have absolutely no voids (weak spots) between the two plywood edges by filling with thickened epoxy.

Jan 29, 2024 · Tad had provided a strake layout drawing, showing how I could get the lower hull strakes out of 6 sheets of 4X8 ply scarfed together into two 24’ long sheets. I printed the drawings out to scale and sat down to figure out whether I could get the bottom panel and lower strakes onto 5 sheets of ply, rather than 6.

Oct 13, 2007 · Re: Dressing fiberglass edges Rather than brushing the epoxy over the edge of the cut fiberglass, rolling it on, moving from the center of the cloth and toward the edge should yield a better result. I use a 1/4" thick foam roller for this. Just don't roll back over the edge in the other direction to avoid lifting the edge.

Do I need to Fiberglass both sides of the hull?
May 4, 2007 · Even an epoxy coating alone (with fiberglass) won't solve the checking problem. Since you can't fiberglass, this is probably a moot point, but it is something to know about. An epoxy coating might at least cut down on the checking but as I said before, it will also probably be a royal pain to install if the boat is basically done at this point.
Cedar Strip boat hull - Fiberglass sheathing or not?
Jul 22, 2014 · Some say fiberglass and some say epoxy(?) because the hull and glass sheathing expand and contract at different rates causing eventual delamination. The boat I'm working on had a failing fiberglass skin up to the mid rail (unsure of the term - wooden strip at the waterline) which I'm in the midst of removing.

Dec 12, 2015 · To improve the abrasion resistance of the fiberglass covered bottom, there is only one good solution. More fiberglass. or more layers of the cloth of your choice, Kevlar, Spectra, Dynel, all work. The fibers make a difference,but the thickness might be as important as the fibers. I would just go with more glass.
