Sep 18, 2024 · People don't like having their work interrupted. I have a friend who's a researcher in a government lab and had been told that if they're shut down all she's allowed to do is come in and take care of any experimental animals (mice and rats) but she's not allowed to collect data.

Feb 19, 2011 · A shutdown would happen, like the last time, if there is no agreement on a budget and no continuing resolution to maintain funding. Then, all of a sudden, there's no authorized funding to maintain government operations and non-essential functions & personnel shut down. In that case, there would be little advance notice.

Nov 6, 2024 · States do provide funds to the institutions, but PP is correct that most aid to students is federal. If the only students who can attend college are those with no federal aid, enrollment absolutely will go down. Lower enrollment has already led some colleges to close and universities to cut departments/majors.

Nov 20, 2024 · I was planning on looking for a federal job, but that will no longer be stable in my field, and I anticipate that many of the corporations and non-profits associated with the policy field will shut down as a result of government lay offs or will be flooded with former govt employees looking for work. Same with universities.
