A falchion is a single-edged medieval sword. They were used by some soldiers in the Varden. After Zar'roc was taken by Murtagh in the battle of the Burning Plains, Fredric, weaponmaster of the Varden, equipped Eragon with a falchion to replace his lost sword.

Brisingr is Eragon's Rider's sword. It was his third sword after Zar'roc and his falchion, fourth if one counts the dwarf sword temporarily loaned to him. It was forged for Eragon by Rhunön, who used Eragon's body to circumvent the oath of "never" making another Dragon Rider's blade.
