When I look at the Memory tab, to the right of MEMORY it shows I have 8.0 GM of RAM but below that it says "Memory Usage" and shows I have 1.0 GB of RAM.

The idea behind doing a clean boot is to be able to tell whether startup time is affected by things that are loaded at boot time. If you don't experience the slow start after a clean boot, you at least know where to start looking for the solution.
