Calibration patches now go in 5%, 10%, 20%, 50% window and fullscreen sizes. Among them 5% step grayscales, 1% near-black steps plus whiter-than-white (105% and 109%) steps.

Jul 5, 2018 · R-G-B. The values are 0 (black) through 255 (white). When in limited mode, pure black is 16 and pure white is 235. Internally your pc and your display are really full RGB. So when using limited, there is translation going on. The easiest is to just take pure black, rgb value (0,0,0).

Using the black level patterns from 01. black-level-v1.mp4 I see 80 flashing while 76 is off. Using 01. black-level-v3.mp4 I have 84 flashing and 80 off.

Do this in a completely dark room with your eyes adjusted to no light for at least a few minutes. You should not see any glow from the TV. The default Brightness setting of 50 is usually correct to achieve a true black.

You will notice that as you move the Color control up and down, the Y value of Red increases and decreases, but white stays the same.

Put the TV HDMI black level setting to low. Now try normal. Compare. Which ever one allows you to see all of the image in the test pattern is the correct one. It should be Normal.
