Aug 31, 2015 · I don't know about souvenir status, but the Germans especially loved to make use of captured enemy equipment. Not just firearms, but tanks as well. As for post-WWII US policy, I can't tell you exactly what it is, but BAFTE still has forms for importing firearms as war-trophies.

Nov 13, 2011 · I once saw a copy of an article in American Rifleman (or its predecessor) addressed to returning GI's, warning them that US military-owned weapons were not souvenirs and were illegal to take home with them. I've long since forgotten where I saw that article.
