Ford offered the Super Cobra Jet version of the 429. The 429 Super Cobra Jet (429SCJ) was fitted with a Holley 735 cu ft/min (20.8 m3/min) 4-bbl carburetor, larger mechanical camshaft, and a four-bolt main block. The engine output was increased to 375 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, coming with a 3.91:1 or 4.30:1 rear axle ratio

Rather than re-engineer the stock head completely, the 429 Cobra Jet simply offered larger valves and ports, a higher compression ratio (11.3:1), and a number of other hardware upgrades to support an advertised 370hp rating (along with the ubiquitous 450 lb-ft of torque).

The 429 Cobra Jet was a V8 engine offered by Ford Motor Company in the early 1970s that was a performance version of its regular 429 engine. The 429 Super Cobra Jet was available in 1971 with a very short production life (one year).
