PetSmart is the only place I was able to locate regular Fantail Goldfish, all the local owned stores carried the other varieties, which I have issues with for a variety of reasons. However, I know the fish purchased there can have issues.

Goldfish and many other plants and animals release growth inhibiting hormones, goldfish are one of the fish that truly grows to their environment. It’s not the same as stunting and doesn’t cause health problems for the goldfish. In fact, the longest living goldfish were all dwarfed in small tanks.

We want to petsmart to buy those "feeder goldfish" (the really cheap ones), the one for like 25 cents. My goal was to get a few to see if they do in the tank before we buy more expensive fish. Sep 17, 2023 · 55 is definitely enough for two goldfish as the general rule is 20 gallons per goldfish. It should say the tank size for them right on the tag. My only concern would’ve been the size disparity between a goldfish they got a year ago and a smaller one now. But if they wanted to try it out, then they absolutely should’ve been sold the fish.

Jun 15, 2014 · Finally, Petsmart only applies that rule to mammals and perhaps even live bearing fish. To prove my point, a worker once asked me how to tell a male platy from a female. Needless to say, I was in my head asking: are you even serious. Depending upon where you live, you could try to find a goldfish breeder.
