Oct 11, 2010 · Definitely, and - more or less- the smaller the splits you have, the easier it is for the wood to dry out. I'm not overly technical on the physics of wood drying, but basically- the more of the inside of the wood that is now exposed to the outside, the quicker the water will evaporate out.

Jan 15, 2009 · Generally, things for growth work better during a waxing moon, and things for decline work better in a waning moon. I had never thought of cutting/chopping wood by the moon phases, but it makes sense to at least drop the trees during the waning moon, closer to the new, as this would be when the moisture is at its lowest.

Reading on this site I hear people talk about cutting up dead trees. I’ve read of people cutting up trees that were dead 5-8 years before they cut them down.

Jun 10, 2011 · Cutting now & Splitting & stacking it thru the winter or in the Spring is a typical method for firewood gathering. Some don't split it under 6" diameter. Several folks use that method successfully. Like you said, it dries fast when split & stacked. It'll be good wood in the Fall if split in the Spring & seasoned thru the Summer.
