Aug 13, 2016 · It's a great pickup for modern rock n roll, although the bridge should be tried both with 500k and 300k pots, maybe even with a combination of these (500k vol, 300k tone) to get the best results, as it can sound a little harsh on some guitars. The PAF Masters are the best pickups I ve ever tried in a PRS.

Nov 30, 2015 · The only 'mass market' pickup I can think of that's expressly designed to sound like a PAF but be louder is the DiMarzio 36th PAF bridge model. It's about half-again as loud as a typical PAF clone (Seth Lover/Antiquity, say) but has the same kind of sound fingerprint.

Flush with pickup ring, that is something people might get hang upon: even Gibsons geometry varies between years, neck angles and all that..I'd rather use distance from string as the thing to measure, not height from pickup ring.

Apr 13, 2013 · This pretty much guarentees you'll get a "good" pickup at a fair price (opposed to buying a PAF pickup with the "Patent Applied For" decal intact, which sell for more money). Sonically the nickel plated covered patent# pickups are excellent values, as they are very similar in sound to a real PAF pickup (but are much less expensive).

Aug 4, 2023 · Modern PAF-style pickups like Throbaks are made to be repros of a particular single PAF pickup, not of the PAF style in general. imo there's a good chance a high-end modern PAF-style pickup sounds better than a randomly-picked original 50s PAF.

I don't have any experience with wide range pickups, but am definitely interested in them. With the Tele, I'll be playing tunes from the Stones, Tab Benoit, Billy Squier, etc. for an idea on the sound I'm shooting for.
