Llamas and Alpacas, good eats? | Homesteading Forum

(I don't think Llamas are quite as expensive.) I had to do google the idea of dining on them and thought that I would share a couple of sites I spied.

Dec 17, 2003 · A local rancher raised them and sold the meat cheaper than beef to the power company where I was working. Usually the really good ferijoada contained black beans and a variety of off-cuts of meat, particularly pork ears, tails and feet that the masters deemed inedible. Americans got an inferior dish made with pork sausage, beef and/or llama.

Goat meat is the same no matter the breed, just that some make more of it than others. Boers are the usual meat goat breed found around here. I butchered a kid at 5 months last year (mini alpine).

Companions for goats or other animals, brush clearers, pack goats, and cart pullers are a few things you can do besides eat them. There still are only so many needed for that stuff as well.

clean llama fleece ..now what | Homesteading Forum
Jul 9, 2014 · In my fleeces, the outer coat is 5" and the inner coat is 2 1/2 to 3". It was easy enough to just pinch the cut end of some hair and pull on the outer part of the coat and I did that with some of it. I also took some of it and slid the cut side over the comb teeth then pulled on the longest hairs of the coat.

Nov 30, 2009 · I have llamas, alpacas, sheep, mini donkeys, pigs, steer and goats all in the same 2 acre pasture. All my goats have horns. I have never had a problem. Raw goat milk, Goat Cheese, Free range eggs and organic produce. Llamas are good guard animals for goats, sheep, etc. Learning new things daily.
