Kumamoto Sanctuary, Wildlife Research Center, Kyoto University
Kumamoto Sanctuary (KS), located in Kumamoto prefecture, is the first and only sanctuary for chimpanzees and bonobos in Japan. As of July 2020 there are, in total, 51 chimpanzees and 6 bonobos living at KS.
