Posted September 18, 2011. Pearly jawfish are very timid when they haven't been established. The first night is when it will jump in particular, so make sure your lights are very dim when added and your lid is tight. For lids, I generally suggest 1/4" clear mesh, as they can usually fit through eggcrate or damage themselves by hitting glass.

Feb 23, 2018 · I've made a pvc home for a future jawfish. I've read and watched a ton of videos. My understanding is that: 1. Bsj disease is not much of a concern any more due to better collecting practices. 2. People have had success keeping bsj up to 80 degree waters. I "may" be getting one very soon. We'll find out soon enough.

All rocks are securely sitting on the bottom, and glued/puttied together. Now for the sandbed. Half the tank will have a 2-2.5" substrate, the other half will be roughly 4".

May 21, 2017 · A jawfish needs a deep sandbed, but in an aquarium you can run into some rather serious issues with deep sand beds. It's an interesting catch 22, especially for cleanup crews. Giving them 2.5-3" of sand and letting them redistribute it seems to be a common thing in a lot of the various reef tank threads I've found.

Mar 29, 2011 · 3/4" pipe was chosen because it's just big enough for a blue spotted jawfish. Jawfish do burrow in the sand, but given the opportunity, they'll often take an established burrow- be it a pipe, or a burrow that a smaller goby and pistol shrimp made.
