The franchise gained momentum with an early video game, Digimon World, released only in Japan in January 1999.

Meanwhile, ‘Digimon’ came into the picture in 1997, also coming in as a game or, instead, a digital pet patterned after Tamagotchi. Eventually, the ‘Digimon’ franchise released a video game called ‘Digimon World’, leading to the first anime of the franchise, ‘Digimon Adventure,’ in 1999.

In the Digimon World series, Digimon World is the first game. In the Digimon Stories series, Digimon World DS is the first game. This can make things very difficult, as the titles of the first games in both series are incredibly similar.

The first Digimon Game hit shelves September 1998, with its most recent iteration, Digimon Survive, coming out worldwide July 2022 after 2 years of delays. The games can be grouped into different categories of games. The World Games, Digimon Story series, Fighting games, Spin-offs and non series RPGs, including some for Mobiles.
