Dec 27, 2006 · IMHO plywood of any type is a very poor choice for sign material. At some point it is going to fail and come apart on them. Using a proper exterior MDF material would be a better choice. EXTIRA is an excellent product for this application. Comes in 4x8 sheets.Oil prime ,top coat with latex your good to good.

The question is whether the extira should be either 1) glued/fastened directly to the brick or 2) should I fasten stripes of wood - similar to what siding has been fastened to(see photo, upper floor) and then fasten extira panels to the wood, thus having a gap between the panel and the brick wall. Sep 18, 2007 · I lay down some 1/2 or 3/4 ply when i'm dealing with some old shabby pine tung and grove sub floors from the 1950's ,its usually all split with big gapping gaps,most of the time half the nails missed and the floors squeak all over the house .I'll screw thru both layers into the joist,makes it nice and quiet again.
