    Generic Name: Minoxidil

    Minoxidil solution and foam are used to help hair growth in the treatment of male pattern baldness. It is not used for baldness at the front of the scalp or receding hairline in men. The foam and 2 percent minoxidil solution is also used to help hair growth in women with thinning hair.

    May Treat: Alopecia · Hypertension

    Drug Class: Direct Acting Vasodilators · Hair Growth Agents - Topical

    Availability: Prescription sometimes needed

    Pregnancy: Consult a doctor before using

    Lactation: Does not adversely affect lactation

    Precautions

    • For solution, non-oral products : Do not use in children under 18 years. Read directions carefully before start of therapy. Keep away from eyes. Avoid broken, recently shaved or irritated skin. Do not apply to sunburned skin. May sting or burn after applying. May take 4 months for full benefit of therapy. Keep medicine away from heat or flames.
    • For tablet products : If available, read the patient package insert. May increase heart rate. May make you dizzy. Use caution when driving. Take doses regularly, even when feeling well. Tell MD before stopping, or starting other drugs. Tell doctor your complete medical history. It is important to check blood pressure regularly. Keep all medical appointments.
