I've found that a good double layered heavy black colored garbage bag rapped tightly around a hair-out hide, can last up to two years. Fleshing, salting and pickling them first will prolong freezer time. The less blood you have with your hide the better.

This was assuming we had freezing temps. It's great in that the proteins break down... cheap way of curing meat. Temps would often be below freezing to about 40 degrees.

I finally got hold of them last month. My hide, along with a few hundred others, were dropped of in Idaho to another tanners to be completed. The tanner in Idaho then calls me for payment.

Aug 4, 2015 · One tip, keep the coolers pre-chilled with either block ice or plastic bottles filled with ice. It makes any ice you add later last longer. Six pronghorns will fit in a 120qt and 70qt coolers. Check the ice often and refill/drain as needed. I've kept meat up to 7 days this way without a bit of spoilage. Works for me.
