Also i've done this for 20+ years and never have had a problem..other on the site say don't.....but I put my fake plants in my aquarium bucket of water and add little bleach, soak for 15 minutes and rinse really well.

Mar 21, 2019 · for a while I had a cartridge, and even after swishing it in tank water it was full to the brI'm with gunk. so, what I did to preserve the media and keep the BB colony is simple. just take some handy scissors and cut the fabric off of the outside, and stuff it into the filter. make sure you get every last bit of carbon off of the fabric before you stick it into the filter.
