Teflon paste and or tape greatly lubricates the joint and makes if very possible to over tighten the fitting. there should be about 3 threads showing when the joint is right.

Best way to fix leaking fitting in black poly pipe
Jun 12, 2020 · Placing the shut off valve on it would raise the height of the pipe( even with cutting the pipe a bit shorter) at least another 3-4 inches. Pump and everything else would have to be raised to accommodate extra height.Top side I have only 1-2inches of room left to work with. Did try reversing a fitting, and checked foot pounds of both fittings.

Sep 25, 2012 · A couple of other things you might try if two pipe wrenches won't crack it loose are some PB Blaster on the fitting, and/or cheater handles on the wrenches. FWIW, PB Blaster is an excellent penetrating oil. Many folks try WD-40, but that is not a penetrating oil. It has its place, that this isn't one of them.

Thinking back to the bad old days offshore, we mixed brass and black iron all the time. Corrosion from the outside was the usual failure rather than internal to the system.
