Nov 2, 2023 · Everything I've seen online indicates that Sapphire uses 0.75 mm pads, of which you can go down to 0.5 mm when replacing, but should never go up to 1 mm as they won't make proper contact, so I guess I'll be replacing the thermal pads on the VRM chips in addition to doing thermal paste on the die.

Yeah, you take out the screws and pull the heatsink off the PCB. It's hard to screw up if you're careful. Clean it and get some good thermal paste. Generally, you likely won't need to do this for a few years if it's a fairly modern GPU and the core temp is normal. Compressed air is good but isn't a replacement for reseating.

This indecates that heat is not efiiciently being transffered from surface of GPU to cold plate of heat sink, heat is being accumulated below the surface of the GPU Die.
