Nov 22, 2017 · The only "stamped" number on a Ford engine is the assembly date which is stamped into the block just forward of the left cylinder head and the stamping process results in characters that are "depressed" into the metal.

Jun 5, 2022 · Some of the best heads to look for: any 289 heads will offer very small chambers and good compression. They have small valves, but breathe well for a mostly stock engine. Ditto the 302 heads, up to 1974. The 351W heads from 1969-1974 are excellent, and have slightly better runners than the 289 or 302 heads, with larger valves as well.

Jan 3, 2010 · The main thing is the heads which are unique to the Hi Po. They can be identified externally by the number cast on the corner of the head by the valve cover lip. If it's a Hi Po head it will have the number 19 or 20 or 21. Under the valve cover the valve seats are pocketed.

Feb 21, 2002 · I have a set of 1965 289 heads. The casting numbers are both C5AE. The heads are dated 5C26 and the other is 5C27. According to the March 2001 issue of "Mustang and Fords" Magazine(page 37),it lists the casting number of C5AE-E as Hi-Po heads. Is this correct?

Mar 5, 2011 · I would go with the 268h ( 31-218-2) from comp cam with a mild rough idle or n+271h ( 31-670-4) has the hipo 289 sound. the cam power band as to match your intake, head, comp ratio, gear and stall. anything above 220 duration @ 0.050" is getting to much for you engine in my opinion.
