Morgan dollar sets new record at $324,000 auction
Sep 18, 2024 — A Morgan dollar has sold for $324,000 at auction, dwarfing the previous $269,500 record price for one of the coins. It sold last Thursday, September 12 at the Long Beach Expo in California. The coin is an 1895 $1 Deep Cameo with a condition rating of PR67+. Aug 21, 2024 — The most valuable item thus far is a King Hans noble from 1496 carrying an estimate of €300,000 to €600,000. The sales begin on September 14, 2024 in Copenhagen. A collection kept in storage for 100 years by a Danish butter magnate's will be revealed and sold at auction this September with a $72million value.
Great Wave prints break just short of $900,000
Sep 18, 2024 — Two copies of the Great Wave, a legendary Japanese print, have each realised just short of $900,000 at separate auctions in New York. Bonhams sold a copy for $889,500 (including premium) on September 18, a day after another copy had been auctioned at Christie’s for $856,800. The Wave was printed by Katsushika Hokusai in 1831.
Hidden coin hoard auctions for £12.5 million
Sep 18, 2024 — The opening of the sale on Tuesday, September 17 backed up their claim with a $16.5-million or about £12.5-million opening session. The standout item was a 1496 Danish King Hans Gold Noble (with a condition grading of NGC AU-55). It realised $1,337,00. That was double its estimate and a new world record for the auction sale of a Scandinavian coin.
