Aug 5, 2021 · Looked at both got 991A, vhf and uhf, better audio receive better DNR, didn't buy them for the display, Used to Yaesu menu's ( also having FT847 with Collins filters, FT2000=D, and FT100.) Easy setup for digital modes, C4FM, working good on HF and 2/70. If the Ftdx 10 had 2 and 70 it would have been the choice. It didn't so the 991a was the choice.

Aug 5, 2021 · If my radio was to be my 1st ham radio,it would be the Yeasu FT991A for the price and value of the 2.The Icom 7300 is $1,099.95 verse the Yaesu at $1,169.95 at HRO store,that's a plus at $70.00 more for Yeasu and you get the 2 meters and 430mhz all SSB,FM,AM,CW and digitals bands and it has all the offsets and pl tones to get on the repeaters.....now that's a VALUE for a 1st time ham radio ...

Aug 19, 2017 · Using the old MD-1 Yaesu microphone and EQplus for compressor/limiter and downwards expander i don't use the FT 991A compressor, just the EQ settings. All bands are getting noisier, specially 160 where i mostly am, and having the noise fighting abilities of the FT991A makes life and listening a lot easier.

May 4, 2019 · A FT-991A owner here. It was fun to see in your video the RF gain button a bit back and injecting non-existent S-units in your S-Meter when using SSB, heh. Did the same here and took me a while to figure it out. FWIW, WTF that, Yaesu.

Aug 5, 2021 · The FT-991A offers features the IC-7300 does not, including VHF and UHF all mode coverage, and Yaesu C4FM/Fusion. If someone desires those capabilities, then the FT-991A is the logical choice. However, for mainly HF operation, the IC-7300 seems superior.

Aug 19, 2017 · The FT-991A was a natural choice for the Fusion mode which works on HF as well as VHF and UHF! I enjoy the distance/heading function that Fusion offers. I can only think of one thing that Yaesu needs to add onto the 991A, On the GPS/CAT DB-9 Serial connector, for the GPS add a GPS power (selectable voltage) to pin #4 to the connector.

Aug 19, 2017 · I run high duty cycle digital modes, SSB and even AM with no problem, though the recommended settings (in the Yaesu manual) for AM are flat out wrong. East coast QTH uses the FT-991 with a physically small Elecraft KPA500/KAT500 amp/autotuner to form a compact 500 watt portable station that I can toss in the car and use at a nearby lakehouse too.

Aug 5, 2021 · The FT-991A in my opinion is unmatched in the all band/all mode world FOR THE price, and has great audio on side band when used with a quality microphone. I plan to keep both rigs for the time being but if pressed would probably let go of the IC-7300 first just because the Yaesu covers more bands.
