Sep 23, 2011 · I was looking for a Red Schwinn La Tour 3 when I saw the Gold Schwinn. I paid $500 for it about two months ago, I would have paid $700, because I buy what I want, not what other people think I should buy, and for their prices. I'm happy with the weight, and the sturdy build, I like the weight, probably 30 pounds, and the ride is solid.

Old 5 speed set ups are about 120mm. 6 speeds about 126mm. 7 speed to 10 speed around 130mm. You can't do much with the old 5 speed spacing. 6 speed spacing can usually be increased by the 4mm necessary to handle a 7 speed cog. I've changed a few old 6 speed friction system to 7 speed indexed set ups. Sometimes just a couple of 2mm washers.

I'd like to get some suggestions about the current value of my Schwinn 27" Super Sport. Its in great shape with all original equipment in a baby blue. 27 inch wheels with quick releases, stem mounted friction shifters, integrated kick stand, duel control brakes. Sure, perhaps decent clean wheels might be more difficult to locate because since March 2020 (the start of the Pandemic "Lock-Down") everybody has been piecing together old bicycles to ride from the best parts of several or more beater/parts/junk bikes because demand for bicycles has exceeded the supply of new bikes for more than the past year now.

I do not feel the same way about the 27" knurled Schwinn rims though. If converted to an upright-bar English-style roadster, they can be fun to toodle about on. Schwinn made a fair number of other models based around this same frame concept (some with EA3 wheels, some with 27" wheels) with this exact configuration though; easier to start with that.

1971 Schwinn Super Sport value and questions I've been wanting to pick up an older, made in the USA Schwinn for a while. I know the older Super Sports are good bikes, fillet brazed with plain gauge chrome moly so on the heavy side designed no doubt to withstand the zombie apocalypse.
