The IRS is drafting plans to try to cut its workforce of roughly 90,000 people in half through a mix of layoffs, attrition and incentivized buyouts, according to two people familiar with the situation and not authorized to speak on the record.

The IRS employs an estimated 90,000 workers in the United States. People of color make up 56% of its workforce; women, 65%.

The IRS disclosed that it was drafting a plan to reduce its workforce by half. The agency started Trump's presidency with almost 100K employees but nearly 7K have been laid off beginning February 20th.
