European countries have been confronting a rise in sabotage attacks linked to Russia that they say appear aimed to stir unease and increase the cost of Western support for Ukraine.

The cable is called C-Lion1 and it runs 728 miles between Helsinki and Rockstock. It’s buried 3 feet into the seabed and would have been difficult to cut by accident. When it was laid down in 2016, it broke data speed records. The cable, just by itself, could enable everyone in Finland to jump on a 25Mbps internet connection at the same time.

Germany and Finland say they are "deeply concerned" after an undersea cable linking the countries was severed.The rupture of the 1,170km (730-mile) telecommunications cable - which is being investigated - comes at a time of heightened tension with Russia.
