U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson said on Wednesday that all single-sex bathrooms in the U.S. Capitol building would be reserved for "individuals of that biological sex," weeks after the election of the first transgender member of Congress.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has issued a new policy reserving restrooms, changing rooms and lockers rooms at the Capitol to the biological sex. "Women deserve women-only spaces," he said in a press release.

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) is launching a fight to ensure Congresswoman-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), the first transgender person ever elected to Congress, cannot use the women’s restrooms once she is sworn in next year.

The Republican speaker of the US House of Representatives voiced support Wednesday for banning a newly elected transgender woman from using women's restrooms in the legislature.

Despite disagreeing with the restrictions, McBride stated she would comply. "Each of us were sent here because voters saw something in us that they value," McBride shared on social media
