Starlink’s first nationwide satellite texting service goes live in New Zealand
SpaceX’s satellite-to-cell Starlink texting service can now operate throughout New Zealand, thanks to the telecommunications company One NZ. The New Zealand-based provider says this is the first time that a nationwide satellite text messaging service has been powered by Starlink.

At launch -- projected for early 2025 -- Starlink will support only texting, but T-Mobile shares that the service eventually will be expanding to data and voice. T-Mobile and Starlink launch beta program for satellite connectivity
On Monday, the telecom company shared that it has opened registration for a Starlink beta program. All T-Mobile customers can register to join the beta program and test out the satellite messaging feature. But spaces are limited, and T-Mobile is prioritizing first responder individuals and organizations, said the announcement.
T-Mobile users can try Starlink-enabled phone service for free during beta
T-Mobile said the Starlink-enabled service will be "much more user friendly" than previous satellite phone services. The carrier said "users will not need to hold their phone up to search for a signal. Both inbound and outbound messages are sent and received just like any other message."
