Penn State has won a closely watched trademark fight over an online retailer's use of its vintage sports logos and images. A Pennsylvania jury awarded Penn State $28,000 in damages on Wednesday over products made and sold by Vintage Brand and Sportswear Inc.

A case that threatened to upend the marketplace for college sports apparel ended Tuesday when a federal jury in Pennsylvania ruled in favor of Penn State in its lawsuit against online retailer Vintage Brand.

Penn State alleged the companies — both co-founded by former minor league baseball player Chad Hartvigson — violated trademark and unfair competition laws by using its trademarks without permission.

Vintage Brand took down its Penn State page from its website when the suit was filed in 2021 but the attorney contended it would go back up if jurors found there was no infringement.
