Chico, as we know, played Italian. And so critics, one of whom said the brothers Marx picked up the mantle Sholem Aleichem, may well have been projecting.

In the beginning, there were five Marx brothers: Gummo, Zeppo, Chico, Harpo and Groucho. After World War I, "Gummo would not go on the stage anymore" and that left four.
