Invest in journalism that matters! The search for a new city manager in Dallas has gone on for too long according to a trio of council members. A Friday memo from Paula Blackmon, Jaynie Schultz and Gay Donnell Willis calling out the recruiting and hiring process that's taken nearly 10 months so far set the stage for a special council meeting on Monday morning.

The Selma City Council held a special meeting on Thursday evening to ratify the results of the November election, but there remained controversy if the meeting itself was legal.

A full city council meeting scheduled for Monday morning to discuss candidates for the position was canceled after failing to meet a quorum.

Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks, spoke at the morning meeting during the public hearing to express her support for Tolbert as permanent city manager. Marshall, along with a handful of other Dallas residents, spoke favorably of Tolbert and noted improvements made in the city under her leadership.

The ad-hoc committee removed one of the four previously named semi-finalists, and two new finalists have been added. However, those names haven’t been made public yet.

Two meetings were slated Monday to discuss hiring a new Dallas city manager. One didn't make quorum. Officials went into an hours-long closed door session in the other.
