Malibu's Franklin Fire is 54% contained at 4,037 acres with schools reopening and roads clearing as firefighting efforts progress.

Three schools shut down by the Franklin Fire in Malibu are reopening Monday and a fourth remains closed for repairs as containment of the 4,037-acre brushfire has grown to 54%, authorities said.

Officials announced at 8 p.m. Sunday that all road closures and restrictions in the Franklin Fire area, including Malibu Canyon, have been lifted as crews make progress on containing the flames. “Fire activity remained minimal with smoldering and creeping in isolated areas within the fire perimeter,
