A record breaking heat wave in the West could begin to subside this week, with high temperatures in Phoenix projected to drop to below 100 degrees for the first time since May, ending a record stretch of brutal heat.

Dangerous, record-breaking heat is ongoing in the West, with Phoenix's temperature reaching the triple digits every day for the last three weeks.

The high on Oct. 1 in Phoenix is expected to be about 111°F, which would shatter the previous high of 107°F that was set in 2020.

This "summer" season continues to be the longest and hottest in Arizona's history. High temperatures have broken daily records for weeks.
