Charles Huff has been hired as the new Southern Miss football coach and there's no time to waste in building the roster for next season. The transfer portal opened on Dec. 9, one day after Huff was hired from Marshall.

It appears Deion Sanders approves of Southern Miss football hiring Charles Huff as its new coach. Sanders, the Colorado coach, posted a photo on his Instagram Story on Friday of Huff at his formal introduction that was held on Thursday.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Huff has hired Dominque Bowman to USM's staff as a defensive assistant coaching the Golden Eagles's secondary. Bowman and Huff previously worked together in 2021 during Huff's first season atop the Marshall football program.

Huff spent the last four years as the Marshall head coach where he led the Herd to a 32-20 overall record with four straight bowl appearances.
