Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes has been named to become the new Seattle police chief in January. Barnes' appointment, announced Friday by Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, comes nearly four years after he was named the Madison police chief in 2021 and four days after the school shooting at Madison's Abundant Life Christian School on Monday thrust him into the national spotlight.

MADISON, Wis. — Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes was named as the chief of police in Seattle on Friday, five days after he was thrust into the national spotlight because of a shooting at a religious school in Wisconsin that killed a teacher and student.
