Thanks to the bipartisan CHIPS Act, tech giant Intel chose to invest billions in Ohio to develop a massive semiconductor manufacturing plant.

Since taking office, Trump has said he would place tariffs on foreign production of computer chips and semiconductors in order to return chip manufacturing to the U.S. The president and Republican lawmakers have also threatened to end the CHIPS Act.

Intel’s plans to build two chip factories in New Albany, Ohio for an investment of more than $28 billion have been postponed. One of the plants was planned to be operable in 2025, according to The Wall Street Journal. The new timelines are:

Intel originally said it expected to begin production at the New Albany, Ohio, site in 2025, and later pushed that back to 2027. It now says it expects to begin production at the first fab in 2030 or 2031, and construction of the second fab is expected to complete in 2031 for operations starting in 2032.

Rumors continue to swirl regarding the future of Intel Corp., after the company has been beleaguered by financial woes. The latest has Intel delaying its New Albany, Ohio, semiconductor fabs even further to perhaps even next decade.

Intel Corp. has again pushed back the expected opening for its semiconductor project in central Ohio. The struggling chipmaker announced Friday that construction on the first of its two factories — known as fabs — planned for New Albany is now expected to be completed in 2030 and begin operations between then and 2031.
