Epic Games agreed to pay $245 million in refunds to Fortnite players who federal regulators say were "tricked" into making unwanted in-game purchases.

Epic Games settled with the FTC over allegations that it used "dark patterns" to trick players into unwanted purchases.

The deadline for applying for a settlement, however, is quickly approaching. You have to file by Jan. 10, 2025, which you can do on the FTC's website. There are some stipulations to getting a refund. The FTC said, in a statement, that you could apply for a refund if any of these things are true:

According to the FTC, the company unlawfully charged players for unwanted purchases, let children rack up unauthorized charges without their parents’ permission, and blocked some users who disputed wrongful charges.

The FTC has begun processing a Fortnite refund for a total of $72 million. Check if you've been included in the first refund.

The FTC will soon start rolling out payments to eligible Fortnite players as part of a new initiative regarding Epic Games and the studio's practices.

Epic Games is making the payments, which average about $114, after settling accusations from the federal government that the studio tricked people into buying in-game items.
