Los Angeles' National Weather Service issues warning Tuesday evening that southern California was still at "very extreme fire danger."

The fast-moving Franklin Fire burned more than 2,000 acres in the hills of Malibu near Pepperdine University Monday night as fire crews from the Los Angeles County Fire Department scrambled resources to contain it.

Thousands of residents were under evacuation orders due to a wildfire burning in rugged terrain in the Malibu area. The Franklin Fire began Monday night under dangerous red flag conditions in Southern California.

On Friday, the cause of the Franklin Fire remained under investigation, Cal Fire said. Rain was also expected in the region Saturday, per the NWS.
