The U.S. Agriculture Department has confirmed a case of bird flu in Clayton County. This is the fourth instance of bird flu in Georgia since an ongoing nationwide outbreak began in 2022. The case in Clayton County involves a single backyard flock that is unrelated to Georgia’s nation-leading poultry industry.

The GDA and the APHIS have confirmed a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in a small, backyard flock in Clayton County.

A case of avian influenza has been confirmed in a small backyard flock of birds in Georgia. The Georgia Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed a positive case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in Clayton County.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture announced it had detected a case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, sometimes called bird flu, in a small, backyard flock of chickens and ducks in Clayton County.

These symptoms are what one of eleven people at Hess Hathaway Farm experienced after some of the chickens on the farm tested positive for avian flu.
