The Biden administration just announced an aggressive target for the US to cut its planet-warming pollution over the next decade – a goal that will all but assuredly be reversed by President-elect Donald Trump in his first days in office.

The president strengthened America’s commitment to slashing climate pollution under the Paris Agreement knowing that it could be abandoned when President-elect Donald Trump takes office next month.

The president announced the United States would aim to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by between 61 and 66 percent by 2035 compared with 2005 levels.

President Joe Biden's administration has set a new U.S. target under the Paris climate agreement to slash greenhouse gas emissions by 61%-66% below 2005 levels by 2035, a goal officials called achievable by states even if President-elect Donald Trump follows through on vows to reverse federal policies.

The new goal is part of the Paris Agreement​, under which member nations must update their emission cut targets every five years.
