A spring snowstorm that lashed Minnesota and western Wisconsin Tuesday night and Wednesday morning has prompted hundreds of schools to announce closures or delays.

Residents in the metro area and much of southern Minnesota put their snow blowers and shovels to work Wednesday as they dug out from the season’s largest storm that dropped up to a foot of snow in places and took down power lines,

MINNEAPOLIS (ASSOCIATED PRESS) – The Minneapolis-St. Paul area, southern Minnesota and much of Iowa were on the downward slide of a powerful winter storm.

At MSP International Airport, 20 outgoing flights had been canceled and 56 delayed, while arrivals also saw 21 cancellations and an additional 31 delays as of 10:30 a.m. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) estimated departures experienced an average delay of 72 minutes because of accumulated snow and ice.

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) - The March snowstorm is officially the largest snowfall of the season in the Twin Cities. As of 6 a.m., Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has picked up 7.4 inches of snow. This marks the largest snowstorm of the season for the Twin Cities. It is still snowing, so this snow total could go up.
